Hello dance families,

There are a few things on the go as we near the end of our dance season, including our studio Picture Day, adjudicated Festival of the Arts performances, and our 2022 Year-End Recital!

All classes (including the winter session classes of Creative Movement and Dance Foundations) participate in Picture Day and the Year-End Recital. For this year, the adjudicated Festival of the Arts performances will involve only our Primary through Senior level classes.

Please read the following carefully and know that Ms. Erin is hard at work on the planning of these events and more details will be coming as soon as they are available.

Costumes

  • Costumes will be sent home with dancers in the next two weeks. Additional details on tights, shoes, hair, and makeup will also be coming but most classes will wear the same tights and shoes as their class dress code attire.
  • Costumes are to be kept safely at home and worn only for the studio events listed below. They will be returned in the final week of classes in May after the Recital.
  • Unreturned or damaged costumes will result in a costume replacement fee of $80 (plus HST) for each costume.

Studio Picture Day – Saturday, April 9

  • Class photos, in costume, will be taken at the studio and dance families will have the option to have individual photos taken (for a fee). There is no charge to be in the class photo and the decision to purchase any photos doesn’t need to be made until after proofs are available.
  • Picture day will run from 9:30 am through to 6:00 pm on Saturday, April 9. Each class will need to be at the studio for approximately 30 minutes. Dancers getting individual photos may be there for slightly longer.
  • Please notify the studio by Wednesday, March 23 if there is a time of day that would be a conflict for your family. This can be taken into consideration when the schedule is being created but once distributed the schedule is final.

Festival of the Arts – April TBD (between April 19-29)

  • Primary, Junior, Intermediate, and Senior classes will be participating in this year’s adjudication workshop sessions for Festival of the Arts. This will be an opportunity to perform their routines for an online adjudicator and then spend some time working with and receiving feedback from the adjudicator.
  • These sessions will be held at the studio during regular class times at the end of April, exact dates and details will be communicated as soon as possible.

DWK Year-End Recital – Friday, May 6 & Saturday, May 7

  • We are making plans for a return to in-person performances for our 2022 Year-End Recital. (Hooray!)
  • We are still working through various scenarios now that restrictions are lifting and will be sending additional details on schedule, volunteers needed, tickets, video purchase, and more as soon as they are finalized.
  • For now, please save the date for a Friday evening dress rehearsal and a full day/evening of performances on Saturday. For those that would be participating for the first time, we traditionally run our dress rehearsal in an age based order on the Friday and then have all dancers perform in both a matinee and an early evening performance on the Saturday.

If your dancer will not be available for any of these dates please let the studio know ASAP. Your dancer would still be able to learn the dance and participate in the other events. Dance performances are a group/team activity and while we sometimes have to adjust for last minute absences (for illness or emergency) we can also practice and prepare in advance with adjustments to choreography or formations if we know about a planned absence.

Don’t forget to mark these dates on your calendar and stay tuned for more information as we finalize our plans.
