Workshops & Camps

DanceWorks Kenora aims to provide additional opportunities for students and community members to experience dance and related activities through special events, workshops, and camps.

Our Summer 2018 camps have come to a close but we still have a couple of upcoming workshop classes in August.

Jenn is a part of both the arts and dance committees within the division where she helps plan the SOSD Dance Day event and Arts in the Park. Jenn has been teaching contemporary, modern, jazz and hip hop dance for many years in both studios and schools, in and outside of Winnipeg. She has taught workshops and formal classes within many studios and spaces, including The Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Marquis Dance Academy and Rainbow Stage.

Jenn is the Artistic Director of Ariya Dance Collective, a non-profit group based in Winnipeg, MB. She created Ariya Dance Collective with the goal that she would be able to provide the community with more professional opportunities and to tap into a creative media-based space for visual and performing artists to tell their stories and to explore their artistic process. There is no limit to what she believes we can create as an artistic community and how passion can bring artists together.

Throughout her professional dance career, Jenn has won prestigious awards, competed locally and nationally, and has performed for a variety of groups and artists. Her choreographies and professional dance groups have received awards at the provincial and national level, such as adjudicator’s choice in addition to a range of scholarships for her students. She has successfully created and developed a range of dance programs, shows and opportunities for students of all ages and abilities.

Jenn is passionate about dance education and works hard to build connections, collaborate with artists and continually grow and develop as a Dance Educator. She is continuously creating opportunities and productions for dance professionals and students.

It was Ms. Browne who encouraged Ms.Marshall to continue with her training and teaching, which lead her to the wonderful dance community in Winnipeg. Ms. Marshall graduated from the the Senior Professional Program at the School of Contemporary Dancers in 2001, and since then has performed continuously locally, nationally, and internationally. Ms. Marshall has also attended a number of teaching workshops, and has taught workshops across Canada.

After returning from completing a residency with Delfos Danza Contemporenea in Mazatlan, Mexico, Ms. Marshall performed with many local choreographers with the Young Lungs Dance Exchange and Jolene Bailie’s Gearshifting Performance Works. She has been a part of many productions, most recently All you can eat/the Top presented at the Winnipeg Fringe Festival in July 2014 and an excerpt from Hybrid Human in Xi’an China in August 2014. In 2012, Claire choreographed and performed in GroundSwell New Music’s presentation of John Cage 100 years. Ms.Marshall also collaborated with fellow Royal Winnipeg Ballet School faculty member Marijka Stanowych and Verba Ukrainian Dance Company to choreograph Holodomor, which was presented in December 2013 and as part of the opening celebrations for the Canadian Museum of Human Rights in the fall of 2014.

Ms. Marshall has been a member of the Artistic Faculty of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School in both the Professional and Recreational Divisions since 2000, teaching Creative Movement, Modern Dance, Movement Improvisation and Movement Composition.
