Dress Code

What clothing or footwear is needed for dance class?

Students are required to have proper dancewear and shoes for all classes. Part of dance training is the discipline learned from arriving to class on time and with proper hair and attire. It is also reduces distractions during the class and makes it easier for the instructor to assess and correct technique and clean choreography.

  • Dance footwear should never be worn outside (and outdoor footwear should never be worn in the studio).
  • Jewelry and watches are not to be worn in class. Earrings can stay in if they are small hoops (less than a pinky finger) or studs.
  • Hair is to be pulled cleanly off the face for all dance classes. For ballet classes, hair must be in a ballet bun, with long bangs and fly-away pieces clipped back.

For adult classes, students should use the below as a guideline and ensure that any clothing is relatively form-fitting and will allow a full range of movement.

There are no local dancewear stores but there are a few options for purchasing dancewear in Winnipeg. (There are also many online shopping options, if ordering from outside Canada be aware of duties and taxes).

  • Harlequin in Winnipeg has a great selection and two locations (downtown and St. Vital). They also have an online store and quick shipping.
  • Mallabar is another option with a location close to the airport.
  • Chasse Dance Supply sells both new and consignment dancewear and is located on Osborne Street.
  • Dance Plus is another option with all the dance essentials and is located on McLeod Ave.
