Volunteers Needed – 2017 Year End Recital

Volunteers play a very important part in both the dress rehearsal and recital experience for all of the dancers. If you can volunteer for one of the positions listed below please contact Erin at info@danceworkskenora.com

Important Dates, Times, & Locations

• Dress Rehearsal – Friday, June 2 – 5:00pm to 8:30pm – 7 Generations Event Centre
  • Volunteers will need to arrive by 4:15pm with the dancers arriving by 4:45pm. Dress rehearsal will run in roughly an age based order instead of show order.
• Recital – Saturday, June 3 – Shows at 2:00pm & 7:00pm – 7 Generations Event Centre
  • Volunteers need to arrive by 1 hour prior to showtime. (Dancers arrive 30 to 45 minutes prior to showtime.)

Dress Rehearsal Volunteers

• Class Supervisors – 9 volunteer needed
  • Supervise dancers, assist with hair/makeup, gather dancers backstage before their performance, ensure all dancers are picked up after 6:30pm.
  • Class supervisors needed for:
    • Creative Movement (Monday) / Creative Movement (Thursday)
    • Creative Movement & Tap (Tuesday) / Creative Movement & Tap (Saturday)
    • Dance Foundations (Monday) / Dance Foundations (Saturday)
    • Primary Ballet
    • Primary Jazz
    • Primary Tap
• Backstage Supervisors – 2 volunteers needed
  • Assist backstage for the length of dress rehearsal.
• Stage Managers – 2 volunteers – positions filled
  • Ensure that dancers are lined up prior to their performance and be a final check that all dancers are with their class and wearing appropriate costumes.

Performances – Front of House Volunteers
These positions involve arriving 1 hour prior to the show. You will be able to watch the show but may need to enter a few minutes after it starts.

• Ticket Sales/Entrance – 2 volunteers needed per show
  • Sell tickets at door, stamp hands, check-in online tickets, tally total numbers.
• Usher – 1 volunteer needed per show
  • Aid audience members during the show (if required), limit entrances and exits during performances

Performances – Backstage Volunteers
These positions involve arriving one hour prior to showtime and staying for the duration of the show and until all dancers are picked up. You can volunteer for just one or both shows.

• Backstage Supervisors – 6 volunteers needed per show
  • Supervise dancers, assist with hair/makeup, receive returned costumes at end of show
• Quick Change Supervisor – 1 volunteer needed per show
  • Be aware of dancers with quick changes, assist with quick change if needed
• Runner/Float – 1 volunteer needed per show
  • Assist wherever needed. Run messages between front and back of house.
• Stage Managers – 2 volunteers – positions are filled
  • Ensure that dancers are lined up prior to their performance and be a final check that all dancers are with their class and wearing appropriate costumes.

Dress Rehearsal Details

• Recital dress rehearsal will take place from 5:00pm to 8:30pm on Friday, June 2 at the 7 Generations Event Centre.
• This year’s dress rehearsal will run roughly in an age based order rather than in show order. Participants can leave after they have rehearsed all of their pieces.
• Dress rehearsal is an opportunity to practice the performances one last time with the same costumes, setting, and lighting, as the actual show.
• Dancers will be able to sit and watch rehearsal before and after they have finished their performance. This is the only time they will be able to watch. They will be required to stay backstage for the actual recital performances
• Dancers are to be arriving for 4:45pm with their hair and makeup done. They will change into their costumes upon arrival.
• Parents will not be allowed to stay for rehearsal unless they are volunteering.
• Pickup times will be 6:30pm for all Creative Movement, Dance Foundations, and Primary level classes and 8:15pm for all Junior and Senior level classes.

Recital Details

• There are 2 shows for Recital this year. All dancers participate in both shows.
• Recital will start promptly at 2:00pm and at 7:00pm on Saturday, June 3 at the 7 Generations Event Centre
• Volunteers need to arrive 1 hour prior to showtime.
• Performers need to arrive 30 to 45 minutes prior to showtime with hair and makeup done.
• Parents are not allowed backstage unless they are volunteering.
• Dancers will remain backstage for the length of the Recital and will be returning to the stage at the end for their curtain call.
• After the evening show the dancers must clean their change room area and return their costume to the appropriate volunteers in order to be signed out and released to the theatre and their waiting parents.
