DanceWorks Kenora
COVID-19 Health & Safety Plan

as of August 29, 2020

Illness & Attendance

  • Dancers and staff are responsible for conducting their own pre-screen every time before entering the studio. Take the Ontario COVID-19 self-assessment if you’re worried you were exposed to COVID-19 or have symptoms.
    • Do not come to the studio if you have a cough, fever, are sick, or if you have any symptoms of COVID-19.
    • Do not come to the studio if you have tested positive (and are not yet recovered), are currently awaiting a test result, or if had close contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 14 days.
    • Do not come to the studio if you have travelled outside of Canada within the past 14 days or if you have travelled within Canada to an area with a high number of COVID-19 cases in the past 14 days.
  • If experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19, dancers and staff must stay home and should seek testing and appropriate medical attention.
    • If symptoms and medical guidance indicate a COVID test is recommended then dancers and staff should be tested. In the absence of a negative test result, dancers and staff must not return to the studio for 14 days and must be symptom-free for 24 hours before returning to the studio.
    • Based on medical advice, families should let the studio know so that any necessary contact tracing protocols can be followed.
  • We reserve the right to take temperatures of anyone entering the studio using non-contact infrared thermometers.
    • Anyone with a temperature of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher (38 degrees Celsius or higher) will be asked to wear their mask and will be kept separated until their guardian or emergency contact can pick them up.
  • Dancers that are unable to attend in person or who wish to do a make-up class may make arrangements to attend a class virtually instead. These arrangements need to be made with the studio director at least 24 hours in advance.

Students

  • Students must come dressed and ready for class. Students with back-to-back classes in different styles should wear the most appropriate attire for both classes.
  • Students should bring the absolute minimum inside the studio. No overloaded dance bags, school bags, books, etc.
  • Students should bring their own, clearly identified or labeled, water bottle already filled with water.
  • If attending a longer time-frame class students may bring their own snack (no peanuts). No food or beverage sharing is permitted.
  • Students with multiple classes in one day, that are not back-to-back, must leave the studio until their next scheduled class time.

Masks / Face Coverings

  • Masks or face coverings are to be worn by anyone while entering and exiting the building and while in the lobby or bathroom areas.
  • Students are not required to wear masks or face coverings while actively engaged in dancing as long as physical distancing is being maintained. It is a personal choice if dancers wish to wear a mask or face covering while dancing.
    • Hooks are placed at distanced locations along the barre. Students can hang their masks in these spots when they are not wearing them.
  • Teachers and assistants will wear masks at class start and end times and at any time during class when they may be subject to reduced distance. They may choose to wear their mask or face covering for the entirety of class or choose to remove it when within their own distanced spot.

Lobby & Studio Access

  • The lobby, bathrooms, and studio will be limited to students, teachers, and any other staff.
  • Drop-off and pick-up only. All parents/guardians, siblings, and family members must wait outside of the studio.
  • Everyone entering the premises must use hand sanitizer or wash their hands upon entering.
  • All lost and found items will be disposed of at the end of each business day.

Drop-off & Dismissal

  • Students will enter through the green door, no more than 5 minutes before their scheduled class time, and will exit through the glass door.
  • Students will sanitize their hands when they enter and place their shoes and personal belongings in a bin before proceeding to one of the marked dance spots.
  • When class finishes students will put their masks back on and carry their bin to the marked locations in the exit area (on the art studio side of the building). Once there students can put their shoes on and gather their belongings.
  • Parents/guardians of younger dancers should approach the glass door or window so that their dancer knows they have arrived for pick-up.
  • Please be mindful of our neighbouring businesses when you park for drop-off and pick-up or if you are waiting in your vehicle during your dancer’s class.

Classes

  • Due to physical distancing, individual class sizes will be smaller and will be strictly limited. Current class size maximum is 6 dancers plus a teacher and an assistant. Spots are available on a first come, first served basis.
  • Classes will be conducted with physical distancing in effect. Students must follow all distancing requirements during class as directed by the teacher and/or assistant.
    • Each dancer will have their own dance space in the centre and at the barre. Teachers and assistants will also have their own distanced spaces.
    • If travelling steps are being done or students need more space then some dancers will stand along the side at marked distances while those steps are being performed by the other dancer(s).
    • The teacher may request dancers to wear their mask at any time during class where distancing may be harder to maintain.
  • Class times will include all arrival and dismissal procedures.
  • Dancers that are unable to attend in person or who wish to do a make-up class may make arrangements to attend a class virtually instead. These arrangements need to be made with the studio director at least 24 hours in advance.

Cleaning

  • The studio now has a UV Air Purifier installed in the HVAC system to help improve air quality. The air filters will also be changed regularly.
  • All frequently touched surfaces will be cleaned after every cohort (doors, barres, dance floor, faucets, etc).
