Adjudicated Dance Performances
Saturday, April 6, 2024
10:00 am to 4:00 pm
Beaver Brae Theatre Room (entrance/parking on east side)
All Dance Foundations, Primary, Junior, Intermediate, Senior, and Ensemble classes participate in the Kenora District Festival of the Arts (KDFA). This is an educational performance opportunity where each class performs and then receives feedback from the adjudicator.
If your dancer is sick or there is an emergency on the day of the performance please notify Erin at info@danceworkskenora.com or by texting 807-464-3666.
Dressing Rooms & Volunteers
To avoid unnecessary crowding and allow the dancers to focus on their performance preparations all non-volunteer parents will check their dancer in at the “backstage” area and then can proceed to the theatre area to watch. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Helen Franko at vanhelen29@gmail.com
FYI: Any questions about volunteering – positions needed, schedule, etc need to be sent to Helen Franko directly. Ms. Erin has stepped back from her role as the dance coordinator for Festival this year and doesn’t have any of those details (but don’t fear, she will still be there all day with all of the classes – just in a teacher only role rather than acting as both teacher and event coordinator).
Audience
This event is open to the public, invite your family and friends! There is no charge at the door but KDFA will gratefully accept donations towards their future programming. Ms. Erin encourages a donation of $5 towards the continued efforts of this long standing local arts organization.
A reminder of arts audience etiquette: 1) no entrance/exit during a performance, 2) silence/turn off your devices, 3) cheer and be supportive of all performances and performers.
Workshops
As part of KDFA, dancers have the additional opportunity to learn from the adjudicators in a workshop class setting. Dancers are strongly encouraged to attend one or more of the workshops, regardless of previous experience in a particular style. Cost is $15 per workshop (cash only). Reserve your spot by completing the KDFA Workshop registration form (pdf) at kdfa.ca

Costumes, Hair & Makeup
Please double check that you have all components of your costume, including your proper dance shoes, clean tights, hair supplies, and makeup prepared in advance. You can review the requirements for each class in the 2024 Costume, Hair & Makeup note available under “News” on danceworkskenora.com and tights can be purchased from the studio through the DWK Online Store.
KDFA Dance Schedule
Call time is the time that dancers need to be at the venue, dressed and with all hair and makeup done, and ready to begin warm-up and performance preparations. Classes will be gathered to line up before their session and will remain near the stage entrance immediately after their performance in order to return to the stage for adjudication. After their adjudication for their session is complete dancers can be picked up or are free to join their families in the audience. We encourage dancers and families to stay and watch another session to support the other dancers and learn from their performances.
