Hello DWK dance families,
We’ve already danced our way through September! Please review the following studio information for reminders on studio etiquette, upcoming holidays and closures, and other studio information. Late registrations are still being accepted for classes with openings.
Important Dates and Studio Closures
You can check the studio calendar, including holidays and closures, anytime at the Class Schedule page. Here are a few upcoming dates to be aware of:
- Thursday, October 5 – October Payments Due
- Monday, October 9 – No Classes – Thanksgiving Monday (please note that Saturday classes are running as usual)
- Monday, October 30 to Sunday, November 5 – No Classes – Fall Break
October Payments Due
A reminder for those paying monthly that October payments are due on October 5th. If you are setup for credit card payments your payment will be processed automatically on the 5th. If you are paying by cheque and have not yet provided post-dated cheques please do so as soon as possible. You can review your tuition fees and payment due dates anytime through the DanceWorks Kenora portal.
Studio Etiquette
An important part of dance class is being prepared for class, both mentally and physically. Please help your dancer to arrive on time, with the proper clothing, footwear, and hair for their class. Remember, you can always check the FAQ on danceworkskenora.com if you are unsure on class requirements.
Ballet buns are required for all ballet dancers. This is an important step and showing up to class without proper hair is the same as showing up without shoes, tights, or your bodysuit. Need a lesson on how to do a proper ballet bun, please watch this Bun Making Tutorial video.
Hip Hop dancers, outdoor shoes are not permitted in the studio! Please be respectful of the studio space and bring indoor shoes to your class.
Also, don’t forget your water bottle! Even the youngest dancers should have a water bottle as the break for water in these classes can be disruptive to the class if they don’t have water with them in the studio.
Younger dancers may need to be reminded that while dance is fun it is also a structured activity and they are expected to listen and do their best in class. We work on class etiquette within class but also have our studio rules and etiquette posted at various places within the studio.
We know the entry way can get crowded at class change times, please do your best not to disrupt the current class when you are entering or exiting.
Make-up your missed classes
Make up missed classes in another level or give a different style a try. Make-up classes do not need to be scheduled in advance, simply let the teacher know when you arrive that you are doing a make-up class. Progress in dance class is due in large part to consistent training; attendance is important and we strongly encourage dancers to complete make-up classes. This is also your dancer’s chance to remove absences from their record and earn their perfect or excellent attendance certificate. Did you know that you can even make-up classes in advance if you know you’re going to be away? Just let your regular teacher know the date you’ll be missing.
Fall 2 Mini-Session
Registration is open for Fall 2 mini-sessions which will run for 6 weeks from November 6 to December 16. Fall 2 mini-session includes Parent & Tot, Powered Up Pilates, Adult Ballet, Adult Jazz, Adult Tap, Adult Hip Hop, Gentle Ballet, and Gentle Jazz+ Tap classes. You can register for these classes online at danceworkskenora.com/registration
World Ballet Day
It’s World Ballet Day on October 5! This is one of Ms. Erin’s favourite days! The event includes 22 hours of streaming behind-the-scenes footage from 5 major worldwide ballet companies. Most companies begin their streaming with coverage of their daily company class (this is where dancers will see many of the same steps that we work on in our classes) and then continues into their rehearsals of the repertoire they are working on for this season. This event starts with The Australian Ballet which means that streaming actually starts tonight at 8pm, find more information at worldballetday.com
See you at the studio!
