Hello DWK families,

We’ve had a great first month of dance! Everyone has been settling into the routine of classes and we’re already starting to see some great progress. Here are a few items to review and news to be aware of as the dance year continues.

Dance Safety – Proper Shoes and Attire Are Required!

If your dancer still does not have any of the proper attire, shoes, or hair supplies please get that ASAP. This ensures dancers are ready to safely and properly participate in dance class.

  • Review the Dress Code on our website if you are unsure of class requirements.
  • A proper ballet bun requires a hairnet and hair pins. Watch this ballet bun video tutorial if you need some tips. Ponytails need to be completely secure with a proper elastic – no claw clips, loose scrunchies, etc.
  • Dancers do not need as much hairspray and gel for class as they would for performance but it should not need to be adjusted during class. Well secured hair allows dancers to focus on their technique during class rather than being distracted or needing to spend valuable class time fixing their hair.
  • Indoor shoes only inside the dance studio! This helps protect our studio floor and keeps it cleaner for classes that dance in bare feet or that do floor work during class.
  • Need to purchase dancewear or hair supplies? The studio has some items in stock, you can browse in the studio or through the DWK Online Store.

Accompany Younger Dancers Through the Parking Lot

For safety we ask that a parent/guardian walk Creative Movement & Dance Foundations dancers to and from the studio entrance. If there are parking spots available (near the studio or on the sides of the lot) when you arrive at the studio please use those first rather than using the middle of the parking lot. This is especially important for the first few classes in the evening that overlap with the operating hours of our neighbouring businesses.

Parents/guardians are also welcome to stay in the lobby area during class if they prefer to wait for their dancer inside rather than running errands or sitting in their car.

Terpsichore Dance Convention in Winnipeg

We have a number of dancers, age 7+, attending this upcoming dance convention. It’s not too late to join our studio group for this event held at the Winnipeg Convention Centre on Saturday, November 22 and Sunday, November 23.

Convention classes include jazz, hip hop, ballet, tap, contemporary, and lyrical. Dancers age 10+ have the option to participate in one or both days while the younger dancers age 7 to 9 can participate in a shorter set of Saturday morning classes.

Dance conventions are a great opportunity to learn from different teachers or professional dancers, explore different styles of dance, experience dancing in a larger group setting, and for dancers to challenge themselves in a different training environment. Dancers do not have to have previous experience in each style but are encouraged to try every class while at the convention.

For more details or to register your dancer at the studio rate contact Erin at info@danceworkskenora.com by Friday, October 10.

Cooler weather is the perfect time to enjoy studio sweatshirts and sweatpants!

Our DanceWorks Kenora merchandise is a great way to represent the studio and be comfy at the same time. All of our newer merchandise is Canadian made (except for the crop tank tops). We also still have some older styles of merchandise on clearance. Browse in the studio and buy through the online store for pickup.
