Hello DWK families,
We’ve had a great first month of dance! Everyone has been settling into the routine of classes and we’re already starting to see some great progress. Here are a few items to review and news to be aware of as the dance year continues.
Dress Code Reminders
Please help your dancer to arrive on time, with the proper clothing, footwear, and hair for their class…and don’t forget a water bottle. The dress code is a requirement for dance class and ensures that dancers are ready to safely participate in class and allow instructors to view and correct body placement and technique.
- Review the Dress Code on our website if you are unsure of class requirements.
- Having hair properly tied back is part of being dressed appropriately for dance. Ponytails and buns for day to day class do not need to be as slicked back as for performances but should be completely secure. This allows dancers to focus on their technique during class rather than being distracted by loose hairs or spending part of class time fixing their hair. Watch this ballet bun tutorial video if you need some tips.
- Indoor shoes only inside the dance studio. This helps protect our studio floor and keeps it cleaner for classes that dance in bare feet or that do more floor work during class.
- Need to purchase dancewear? The studio has some items in stock, you can browse in the studio or through the DWK Online Store.
Parking & Pick-up/Drop-off
If there are parking spots available (near the studio or on the sides of the lot) when you arrive at the studio please use those first rather than using the middle of the parking lot. This is especially important for the first few classes in the evening that overlap with the operating hours of our neighbouring businesses.
For safety we ask that a parent/guardian walk Creative Movement & Dance Foundations dancers to and from the studio entrance. With our new lobby area you are also welcome to come in and help your dancer get their jacket or shoes on/off (and can also wait in the lobby during their class).
Power Dance Convention in Winnipeg
We have a number of dancers, age 7+, attending this two day dance convention in Winnipeg this year. It’s not too late to sign your dancer up to join our studio group for this event held at the Winnipeg Convention Centre on Saturday, November 2 and Sunday, November 3. Classes offered can include jazz, contemporary, tap, hip hop, jazz funk, and more.
Dance conventions are a great opportunity to learn from different teachers or professional dancers, explore different styles of dance, experience dancing in a larger group setting, and for dancers to challenge themselves in a different training environment. Dancers do not have to have previous experience in each style but are encouraged to try every class while at the convention.
For more details or to register your dancer at the studio early bird rate for this event contact Erin at info@danceworkskenora.com by Saturday, October 12.
Parent Viewing
We will be arranging class viewing opportunities later in the fall. This is your opportunity to see what a typical dance class looks like and to appreciate the hard work happening inside the studio. Stay tuned for more information.
